CHARLES STREET

MAYFAIR

The existing building is a focal point on Charles Street constructed in the Palladian style on lower ground, ground plus four levels. The building is clearly visible from Berkley Square.  The conversion includes 4 luxury apartments, which are located on the ground and lower ground levels, are currently self-contained.

The proposal is to convert the four lateral apartments into two duplex penthouse apartments taking advantage of residual common areas and extending to the front and rear courtyards. The duplex units include the main living accommodation at the ground level with private zones and sleeping areas at the lower ground level.

The new configurations include a light transparent addition to the rear forming an orangery/dining room, feature glazed stair access connecting the two levels with glazed facades to the courts, double doors through to the amenity spaces, new light wells to allow light to penetrate to habitable spaces and new terraces to the rear in the form of winter gardens. The duplex units will enjoy improved natural light increasing the quality of space to habitable rooms and also the creation of large reception/ dining areas on the ground with bedrooms and ensuite bathroom facilities at the lower ground level. The scheme also builds into the historic coal chutes opening up direct light from the flank walls adjoining Hayes Mews.

The style for the interior design is Art Deco with careful attention paid to detail and effective use of all available space. The interior design specification is high to suit the location and relevant values within the Mayfair district.
