The site is located on the Thames riverside, north of Cringle Street, adjacent to RMC Battersea (Metro Greenham) safeguarded wharf, and within the Nine Elms Riverside district of Nine Elms. The current use is an Existing Waste Transfer Station and covers an area of 1.12 hectares, which is used to compact regional municipal waste from the surrounding boroughs including Chelsea, Wandsworth, Hammersmith & Fulham and Lambeth into containers to be transported by barge to landfill sites at Mucking. The site lies within an archaeological priority area adjacent to Battersea Power Station which forms part of the new regeneration master plan at Battersea. To the north, across the River Thames, are the Churchill Gardens, Pimlico and Dolphin Square Conservation Areas and beyond is the Palace of Westminster World Heritage site, all of which lie within the City of Westminster.

The proposal includes the design of a new transfer station remote from the site connecting below ground level to a new transfer facility utilising Envac piped systems and electric cars. On site the new negative pressure transfer station box occupies part of the ground level and will environmentally cleanse the site offering the opportunity for the redevelopment of 653 new apartments, 385 integrated car parking spaces with buildings rising to seventeen storeys which will benefit from the east and west facing panoramic views to the Thames. The scheme is subdivided into three undulating finger forms with green roofs, meandering towards the water’s edge extending the active frontages and providing oblique views for the residential accommodation towards the Thames and London.
