WEST HEATH ROAD

HAMPSTEAD

The scheme includes the demolition of a redundant office facility with outbuildings in a prime location close to the heart of Hampstead in North London. The site benefits from many mature trees which are retained. The existing building footprint is respected with the new plan configuration reducing any adverse visual impact to the surrounding context.

The plan form is L shaped taking advantage of views to the green spaces to the north east and also respecting the axes along West Heath Road to the north west. The sectional profile follows the existing general massing datums on ground plus 3 levels with a part basement car park at the lower ground level. The project is divided into 4 components with individual cores for access to upper levels. The scheme provides 28 large apartments including 9 duplex units on the ground and first levels. Two new 4 bedroomed houses are located to the far east of the site with independent access directly from West Heath Road close to the gatehouse entrance.

The design of the elements are emphasised as horizontal stone, rendered and metal rainscreen cladding forms with the upper floors expressed as lightweight curtain wall systems. The fenestration is generally vertical with intermediate shifted panels forming distinct and identifiable character.
