PADDINGTON WATERSIDE
WESTMINSTER
The master plan at Paddington Basin is focused on the Grand Union Canal (Grand Junction) which opened in 1801. In conjunction with British Waterways the master plan is developed to enhance the amenity of the basin and to maximise both the use of the water space and its relationship with the proposed new areas of public realm.
The basin is divided into three distinct zones with the ‘approaches’ to the west, the ‘active’ zone to the centre and ‘static’ zone to the east. The aspirations are to improve public access to the water, modernise mooring facilities, improve water quality, create distinct zones for activity, manage the area with a harbour master facility and improve the relationship between the water and land based activities.
