WIGMORE STREET

WESTMINSTER

This site falls within the Westminster Conservation Area. The development includes new offices with two refurbished grade 2 listed buildings on Duke Street leading directly onto Manchester Square. The new headquarter office building provides 3,716sqm (40,000sqft) net space with a retail and restaurant unit occupying the majority of the ground floor level. The restaurant dominates the ground level frontage between a series of black granite columns and extends further to the basement level. At levels one to five the internal space contains offices ordered on a regular 1.5 metre grid. The building form steps to respect the large scale at Wigmore Street reducing to the Georgian scale at Duke Street. The regular window grids are harmonious and translate from large to smaller openings as the building moves to meet the context of the conservation area at the corner of Wigmore and Duke Street. The structure is steel frame with rainscreen cladding incorporating small scale brickwork piers between composite metal windows with metallic heads, reveals and cills. Horizontal channels run through tying in the individual components as a whole. The upper floors are metal frames lined with glazing forming pavilions offering views along the length of Wigmore Street. The building won the BDA award for the best commercial building in 2002.
